Our story
Our impact
"When one tugs at a single thing in nature, he finds it attached to the rest of
the world." ~John Muir
Lulliloo LLC (Downtime owner) is dedicated to global conservation. Our impact
on the environment is taken into every aspect of our business. Besides the
following initiatives, we are dedicating a minimum of 10% of our profits to
organizations that are working to find ways for society to live in balance with the
natural world that sustains us... so that our children have a healthy planet to
live, play and sleep in.
Organic cotton.
Our products are made from organic cotton, which is grown without the
use of chemical pesticides and fertilizers. Conventional cotton farming is one of
agriculture's most environmentally destructive activities. According to the
Sustainable Cotton Project in California, "The simple act of growing and harvesting
the one pound of cotton needed to make a T-shirt (or any other conventional cotton
product) takes an enormous toll on the earth's air, water and soil, and
significantly affects the health of people living in cotton growing areas".
Local manufacturing.
Our hats are manufactured in Brooklyn, New York using materials from New York,
North Carolina, and Colorado. Manufacturing in country, as opposed to overseas,
minimizes carbon dioxide emissions from transportation.
Post-consumer paper.
We choose paper products that have been recycled and that have high post-consumer
content. Where possible, we choose paper that is or has been processed
chlorine-free. Choosing post-consumer recycled paper helps to preserve forests,
cut paper-manufacturing pollution, and reduce solid waste. Choosing process- and
totally-chlorine free papers reduces emissions of dioxin, a known human carcinogen
linked to endocrine, reproductive, nervous and immune system damage.
Reusable packaging.
Downtime Sleepy hats are packaged in reusable organza bags. Reusing materials
preserves natural energy and resources and prevents waste. It does so even more
than recycling.
